From canvas to code - Jakita's characters shine on the new Deadly Coders online platform

Deadly Coders is thrilled to announce a new three-year partnership with Shell Energy from June 2023

This collaboration aims to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across Australia with exciting opportunities to explore and ignite their passion for STEM learning. Over the coming three years, Shell Energy’s funding will allow Deadly Coders to deliver hands-on coding and robotics workshops to 300 Indigenous students via in-person workshops and an innovative online learning portal. This partnership represents a significant step towards empowering Indigenous youths and fostering sustainable pathways towards STEM careers.

Creating accessible learning opportunities:

The focus of the partnership is to provide Indigenous students with access to engaging and culturally safe STEM learning experiences. Each program includes hands-on learning opportunities and mentoring sessions with Indigenous STEM leaders. The first year’s program plan includes a two-day regional Queensland STEM workshop in Chinchilla where students in high school years 9-11 will build Arduino Robots; and an eight-week coding immersion program at Hymba Yumba Independent School in Springfield for students in years 2-6.

Online learning portal

Recognising the importance of sharing STEM exposure as widely as possible, part of the partnership funding will be allocated to the development of an online learning portal. Created in collaboration with Indigenous educators and instructors, the platform will offer coding fundamentals, delivering a valuable resource and enabling students to learn at their own pace online.
