ANZ Software Engineering Bootcamp

Now Enrolling: Inaugural Deadly Coders Academy in partnership with ANZ

Deadly Coders is thrilled to announce the official launch of Deadly Coders Academy’s inaugural program, an innovative new initiative in partnership with ANZ, which will equip young Indigenous adults with the digital skills and software engineering expertise required to pursue meaningful careers in STEM.

As part of Deadly Coders’ commitment to supporting Indigenous youth in the digital economy, this paid study program will provide hands-on training in software engineering disciplines, helping students build real-world coding projects and prepare for in-demand tech roles.

What does the Deadly Coders Academy entail?

Deadly Coders Academy is more than just a coding program—it’s a pathway for young Indigenous adults to gain valuable experience, mentorship, and industry connections that can help shape their future careers. This program serves as a stepping stone towards full-time employment connecting with real roles in the tech industry, providing students with the foundational skills and industry exposure needed to transition into long-term careers. The initiative is part of our broader mission to foster opportunities for Indigenous youth in technology, ensuring they have access to the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in an ever-evolving digital world.

Students will gain hands-on experience in programming languages such as GoLang while developing practical skills in agile methodologies, cloud computing, and software engineering best practices. The program also incorporates soft skill development, ensuring students graduate with the teamwork, ethical behaviour, and presentation skills necessary to thrive in professional environments.

ANZ’s pioneering Software Engineering Bootcamp launches April 28 2025, covering essential learning units including:

  1. Introduction to programming
  2. Advanced Programming
  3. Mobile App Development
  4. Software Development Practices
  5. Software Engineering Principles
  6. Introduction to APIs
  7. Cloud Computing

Kylie Cummings, ANZ’s Head of Technology – Commercial Division, and responsible for driving this initiative with ANZ, emphasised the significance of the initiative:
“This has been a dream of mine for some time—to create meaningful career pathways into technology for First Nations people and to highlight just how exciting and rewarding a career in tech can be. Technology drives innovation, solves complex problems, and shapes the future. It’s critical that First Nations talent is not only included but empowered to lead in this space.

Partnering with Deadly Coders on this transformative initiative is a game-changer. This is about more than just training—it’s about unlocking potential, building sustainable careers, and ensuring that Indigenous voices and perspectives are embedded at the heart of STEM. I’m incredibly excited to witness the impact of this program and the extraordinary contributions these students will bring to the industry.”

Grant Maher, CEO and Chair of Deadly Coders, shared his excitement about the launch:
We’re incredibly proud to launch Deadly Coders Academy, and call for registrations for our first intake of students. This initiative represents a crucial step in bridging the digital divide for Indigenous students, providing them with the skills and confidence to thrive in the tech industry. We know that Indigenous perspectives and innovation are vital in shaping the future of technology, and we’re committed to ensuring our students have every opportunity to excel.

A structured, paid scholarship program:

The Academy offers a structured, paid learning journey with interactive workshops, project-based learning, and access to mentors from the industry. Students will have the opportunity to work on practical coding challenges, collaborate with peers, and gain insights from leading professionals in the tech sector. Additionally, the program is designed to prepare students for future employment opportunities, including the development of a student portfolio and pathways to ANZ traineeships, progressing towards a full-time role after 12 months.

If you or someone you know is an Indigenous student eager to break into the world of coding and technology, now is the time to take action! Applications for Deadly Coders Academy are now open, and close 28 March 2025.
